Being an adviser

A Caring for Ex-Offenders Adviser is someone who has experience helping ex-offenders reintegrate into the community through a local church, and has a passion for helping other churches to do so.

CFEO Advisers do this by:

  • Being available to advise and support Churches who are involved in working with ex-offenders from their own experience, and providing encouragement when things are challenging.

  • Linking churches together so that they can support each other (e.g. if one church provides an addiction recovery course and another is supporting an addict).

  • Maintaining an awareness of the support that charities and statutory organisations in the local area provide and signposting churches to them.

  • Feeding back information, stories and prayer requests to the CFEO office.

  • Linking in with the Alpha regional team to provide and receive support, insight and accountability from others.

Becoming an Adviser

To become an Adviser you need to:

  • Have experience of working with ex-offenders in the community.

  • Be passionate about and able to commit to proactively supporting others who are involved in this ministry.

  • Be willing to have your contact details passed to those in your region who make enquiries about this ministry.

Resources for Advisers

If you are currently an adviser there are a number of resources available to help you in your role and we would particularly encourage you to visit the Adviser forums on this site. These forums are designed so that Advisers can share their experiences, obstacles, successes and tips with each other and with the Prisons team.

  • ‘So Help Me God’ a 20 minute documentary about the work of Alpha for Prisons, Caring for Ex-Offenders and Prison Fellowship. This is a great resource for encouraging people who are interested in this ministry
